چکیده

The interface-selective second harmonic generation (SHG) nonlinear optical spectroscopy and the surface tension method have been used to measure the effect of electrolyte on the adsorption isotherm of 4-hydroxyacetophenone (4-HA) at the air-solution interface. It was observed that high NaCl concentration favors adsorption of organic molecules to the air-solution interface. Measurements of the polarization of the SHG field showed that the orientation of the organic molecule at the air-solution interface is close to that in the neat air-water interface and does not vary with organic concentration. The free energy of adsorption of the molecule to the air-solution interface becomes significantly more negative with an increase in salt concentration, and good agreement was found between the results from the two different techniques. We conclude that the increased affinity of 4-HA for the air-water interface in the presence of NaCl is due to the salting-out effect.

Synthesis and Characterization of Graphene Oxide Nano-Sheets for Effective Removal of Copper Phthalocyanine from Aqueous Media

Graphene Oxide (GO) nano sheets was synthesized from graphite by Hummers method. The nature and morphology of the GO were characterized using FT-IR, UV-Vis, SEM and XRD analysis. Batch sorption experiments were carried out to remove copper (ii) phthalocyanine-tetrasulfonic acid tetrasodium salt [Cu(tsPc)-4.4Na+] from its aqueous solutions using GO as an adsorbent. Experime...

Simulation and theory of ions at atmospherically relevant aqueous liquid-air interfaces.

Chemistry occurring at or near the surface of aqueous droplets and thin films in the atmosphere influences air quality and climate. Molecular dynamics simulations are becoming increasingly useful for gaining atomic-scale insight into the structure and reactivity of aqueous interfaces in the atmosphere. Here we review simulation studies of atmospherically relevant aqueous liquid-air interfaces, ...

Adsorption of Zn (II) from aqueous solution by using chitin extraction from crustaceous shell

Removal of toxic heavy metals from wastewater is an important environmental challenge. In this Study, Zn (II) removal from aqueous solution by chitin extraction from crustaceous shells (shrimp and crab) was investigated. The biosorption studies were determined as a function of contact time, pH, initial metal concentration, and the amount of adsorbent. Adsorption of Zn (II) increased with decrea...

Effect of Azolla filiculoides on removal of reactive red 198 in aqueous solution

The textile dyes are considered as major environmental problems. The dyes can be removed by various methods. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the adsorption rate of Reactive Red 198 (RR198) from aqueous solution by activated Azolla filiculoides. This was an empirical-lab study. The Azolla was used as an adsorbent to remove Reactive Red 198 dye. The effect of various parameters was invest...
